Individualized Education designed to help each child thrive.

We are located in Coushatta, Louisiana.

We are a private, non-profit microschool, offering both full and part time (cooperative homeschool) learning.

Introduction to Country Day Montessori School

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”

- Maria Montessori

Our mission is to foster an inclusive, Christ-centered, educational environment where each child, through experiential hands on learning and project based exploration, can develop at a pace precisely appropriate for him or her.

What characterizes a Montessori Education?

Maria Montessori was the first female physician in Italy. She devoted her life to the study of children and their approach to learning and development. The Montessori approach has been embraced all over the world and academic studies consistently demonstrate that Montessori methodologies lead to greater student outcomes.

At Country Day Montessori School you will notice that children are given autonomy to move about, to choose work, to collaborate with peers, start a project, and explore an interest. Teachers present lessons to individual students or a small group rather than to the entire class, so students are able to progress through skills at a personal pace.

We respect that students enter our classroom with an innate ability to learn so we carefully prepare the environment so a child can do his or her work joyfully. The result is a child who loves to learn and continues to be inspired to inquire, discover, and explore. Our desire is to stoke a child’s insatiable curiosity to understand, interact, and contribute to the world around them. This means fewer worksheets, less time at a desk, fewer tests and quizzes, and more opportunity to pursue passion.

What is a Microschool?

A microschool represents the modern reinvention of the traditional one-room schoolhouse. Rather than large, institutional settings, most microschools maintain small communities and value close interaction and cooperation with parents. The intimate nature of a microschool allows for a high level of customized educational offerings, a family style atmosphere with close interactions between students among different age levels, and opportunities for exploration and discovery that are not possible in a more traditional classroom setting. For many people, microschools offer the benefits of a homeschool environment, with the advantages of a private school community approach and expertise.

At Country Day Montessori School, we offer both a full time and a part-time (collaborative homeschooling/university model) program, where children spend some days of the week with us and then continue their learning from home.

“County Day Montessori School is the perfect place for my children... My daughter is able to work on skills traditionally taught several grade levels ahead of her age, while my son, who is on the autism spectrum, is able to receive the individualized support he needs all while in a loving, nurturing environment. ”

— Lindsay Dupree, parent of children in primary and elementary
